About

Welcome to the wonderful world of Steven Frederick Shundich. I am a Chicago-based travel writer and journalist, with credentials from both Northwestern’s Medill School of Journalism and The Second City.

In 1987, I took my first international trip, flying on the cheap as an air courier to Rio de Janeiro. I’ve lived overseas twice. Visited 49 U.S. states and 70 countries. And speak four languages (five if you include gibberish). And I am passionate about travel. All of it – from the original idea to the plan (or not) to the actual journey. But, above all, it’s the people I meet and the stories they create that I love the most.

My work has appeared in print in The Washington Post, Philadelphia Inquirer, Detroit Free Press, Fort Lauderdale (South Florida Sun-Sentinel and Fort Pierce/Port St. Lucie Tribune (TCPalm) newspapers; CHICAGO, Restaurants & Institutions and HOTELS magazines; and, most recently, online at Cincinnati.com. I have been a newspaper reporter and travel columnist, a magazine editor (of a global hospitality trade) and – always – a writer.

And, if you’re interested, I also have a strong background as a content strategist, helping to build and manage global websites such as Deloitte.com and Motorola.com.

But enough about me. How may I help? Feel free to contact me at hello@shundich.com. And, please, enjoy this site!

In Copenhagen with The Little Mermaid, who's had her arm amputated and head cut off (twice). Where's the hygge in that?
